Referral guidelines
Neonates and infants with the following problems are
appropriate for referral:
-
Infants who stop breathing or who
demonstrate irregular respirations.
-
Infants have a life-threatening event's (ALTE)
with cyanosis, duskiness or pallor.
-
Infants who have breathing disorders
related to feeding.
-
Siblings of sudden infant death syndrome
(SIDS) victims.
-
Infants with apnea or other ventilatory
control disturbances.
-
Infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
-
Infants with obstructive sleep apnea that
may manifest itself by any of the following:
-
loud snoring or noisy breathing during
sleep.
-
Frequent waking associated with position
changes.
-
Stridor or wheezing when asleep or
awake.
